Feed

Feed

At Orkney Shellfish Hatchery (OSH) we develop specialised feeds for the aquaculture industry, designed to promote survival rates. OSH is adding an entirely new range of feed products to its hatchery range for clawed lobsters, oyster spat and lumpfish. The core of these feed products lies within a deep understanding of the biology of these marine species and the link between good nutrition and health.

We take sustainability seriously and it's not only what we aspire to do, it's what we do every day. We understand that the sustainability challenges of food production are increasing, and this is why our specialised feeds department, through sustainable innovation, is aspiring to be part of the global solution.

Our approach to sourcing

Food safety and providing a consistent quality level for our customers is achieved all the way through the feed production process. We only source raw materials from accredited feed mills and suppliers that share our core values and respect for the oceans. Overfishing of wild fish stocks for fishmeal and fish oil production is detrimental to the marine ecosystem, which is why OSH develops its own microalgae to use within its feed. This alleviates the fishmeal, protein bottleneck.

Traceability

Traceability from farm to table is critical. OSH works with suppliers that implement traceability systems, enabling the products supplied to our feeds department to be traced back to their source. This is just one way that we ensure our suppliers demonstrate compliance with our core beliefs and ethical and environmental aspirations.
